Roesler

Roesler is a fungus-resistant red variety bred in 1970 by Gertrude Mayer at Klosterneuburg from Zweigelt and a Seyve-Villard × Blaufränkisch seedling. Its resistance to fungal disease and to winter frost comes from its interspecific ancestry. In 2020 it covered 259 ha, up from 216 ha in 2015, in Burgenland (132 ha) and Lower Austria (116 ha). It gives deeply coloured red wines with dark berry fruit.
