Blauburger

Blauburger is an Austrian crossing of Blauer Portugieser and Blaufränkisch, bred by Fritz Zweigelt at Klosterneuburg in 1923. In 2020 it covered 602 ha, down from 750 ha in 2015, mostly in Lower Austria (491 ha). It gives deeply coloured, soft red wines with dark berry notes and is often used in blends to add colour.
