Blauer Portugieser

Blauer Portugieser has nothing to do with Portugal: VIVC gives Slovenia as its country of origin and Blaue Zimmettraube and Grüner Silvaner as its parents. In 2020 Austria had 951 ha, down from 1,265 ha in 2015, and 939 ha of it are in Lower Austria, mainly in the Weinviertel and the Thermenregion. It gives light, mild red wines with little tannin and red-berry fruit, drunk young, often at the Heuriger.
