Blauer Wildbacher

Blauer Wildbacher is an old red variety that VIVC places in Austria, with Heunisch Weiss as one parent. It is almost entirely Styrian: 479 of its 481 ha in 2020, mainly in Weststeiermark. It is best known as Schilcher, a pale onion-skin to salmon-pink rosé with high, lively acidity and red-berry notes; it is also made into sparkling Schilcher and, more rarely, red wine.
