Rathay

Rathay is a fungus-resistant red variety bred in 1970 by Gertrude Mayer at Klosterneuburg from Blauburger and a Seyve-Villard × Blaufränkisch seedling; it is a sibling line of Roesler. It is still rare but growing: 43 ha in 2020, up from 32 ha in 2015, most of it in Burgenland (27 ha). It gives deeply coloured, fruity red wines with dark berry notes.
