Zierfandler

Zierfandler, also called Spätrot, is a rare Austrian white variety with pink-skinned berries; VIVC does not record its parentage. Of its 77 ha in 2020, 73 ha are in the Thermenregion of Lower Austria, around Gumpoldskirchen. It ripens late and keeps high acidity, giving full-bodied, long-lived white wines with notes of quince and citrus, both dry and sweet; the traditional blend with Rotgipfler is known as Spätrot-Rotgipfler.
